Establishing the Mobile Center of Excellence

Overview Back in 2010 mobile was very much a budding design discipline. As Citrix began to embrace mobile design thinking there was a fundamental gap in mobile design understanding across design, product, engineering, and marketing. Me and a couple other designers realized that there needed to be a central source of knowledge pertaining to Mobile best practices.

With the full support of the leadership team - myself and 3 other subject matter experts (Adam Torres, Kris Niles, and Laura Martin) established the Mobile Center of Excellence to promote collaboration, educate others, and to establish & defend mobile best practices.

Results We held bi-weekly meetings and office hours to help other teams that were working on mobile projects, by brainstorming solutions and providing feedback and advice. We also gave presentations and facilitated mobile design workshops to promote mobile design thinking and best practices.

The Mobile CoE was a great success and helped elevate a mobile-first mentality and helped drive business results, through better designed mobile products.
